Pui Ying Lakewood Chinese School is one of the Chinese Schools under Pui Ying Christian Services Society. The school was founded over 20 years ago and incorporated into the family of Pui Ying in 2008.
The goals of the school are to promote Chinese culture, advance Chinese language education, and to serve the community. The school educates students in the understanding of Chinese culture, traditions and ethics, and to raise their interest in learning. Teachers use activity-based and interactive teaching methods to train their students step by step in their listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills, as well as in building up a good foundation in Hanyu Pinyin. The school uses textbooks that are published by Pui Ying Chinese Schools. They are designed with Canadian contents and suitable for local born students.
Both Mandarin and Cantonese classes are offered from kindergarten to grade six levels. Classes with simplified or traditional characters are available. For Cantonese classes, each lesson consists of half an hour of Mandarin pinyin and conversation practice. It is to equip students with basic communication skills in Mandarin.
Teachers are professionally trained with extensive teaching experience. They are caring and patient, and keen to provide a friendly and safe learning environment to students.
